On an unusually cold and snowy September morning just after sunrise, I entered Yellowstone National Park and spotted this red fox out of the corner of my eye in the snow bank off to my left. I stopped quietly, and from a distance watched, fascinated, as he dug through the snow and captured this vole, ecstatic to be able to capture this incredible sight in the silence of the early morning hours. Although the weather during this trip was less than perfect for landscape photography, it provided the ideal setting for several unexpected magical moments like this one to get closer to wildlife that are forever memorable.
