On an unusually cold and snowy September morning just after sunrise, I entered Yellowstone National Park and spotted this red fox out of the corner of my eye in the snow bank off to my left. I stopped quietly, and from a distance watched him dig through the snow to capture a vole and quickly finish his prey, obviously very satisfied with his conquest. It was an incredible sight to witness in the silence of the early morning hours. Although the weather during this trip was less than perfect for landscape photography, it provided the ideal setting for several unexpected magical moments like this one to get closer to wildlife that are forever memorable.
