I found wolves before sunrise on the Black-tail Deer Plateau. For three hours, I watched the 8-mile Pack on the far hillside from a vantage point across the meadow. A couple of times they would start howling. Suddenly a young wolf stepped out of the forest on my side of the meadow. The wolf carried the foreleg of a bison. It quickly determined I wasn’t going to take its prize and proceeded moving toward the pack. I promptly backed away, but got a couple of shots as it stepped over the downed timber.
