Bald Eagles migrate into the Sanpete Valley of central Utah as winter approaches. They move down from Canada and spend the winter here feeding on carrion, wounded game, and fish. Their presence adds to the splendor of winter and adds a wonderful challenge to wildlife photography here.
I photographed this eagle on a morning that was well below freezing and graced by a magnificent hoarfrost. On such mornings I explore back roads and drive slowly with both front windows of my vehicle down, the heat up, and my camera and telephoto ready to shoot. This particular morning it really paid off.
