KATA HB-205Satisfying your holiday wish list with photo books shouldn’t be too difficult this year. With so many books hitting the shelves on such a broad range of topics, it’s paring down your list that won’t be easy. You’ll find career retrospectives from legendary photographers; how-to guides on software, equipment and techniques; and colorful pictorials showing landscapes from the mountainous terrain of the American Pacific Northwest to the sand dunes of Namibia. And there are, of course, plenty of pages devoted to wildlife.

Dig into the late Galen Rowell’s collection of photographs that span his career, take a Photoshop crash course using OP Editor Rob Sheppard’s guide on enhancing landscape and nature images or check out wildlife photographer Andy Rouse’s intimate animal portraits. What follows is a collection of books that caught our attention this year. Whether you’re buying for yourself or someone else, we’re confident that this gift-buying guide outdoes anything Santa’s elves could put together.
