Winner: “Bell’s Fall Sunrise” By John Pierce
“The Maroon Bells are one of the most iconic places in Colorado, if not the United States, for fall color. This image was made a few years ago before the Park Service placed restrictions on the area. Even before sunrise at this time of year, a reservation pass is now required to be admitted to the area. The number sold is limited and one must contact the Park Service months ahead of time to get one. There’s now a small rope fence in place that keeps you on the trail and off the shoreline. In addition to these restrictions, a few years ago there were avalanches in the area that swept trees into Maroon Lake impeding the reflections. Regardless, a beautiful place in the fall.”
