Congratulations to Beamie Young for winning the Shapes Of Winter Assignment!

“Patterns, especially in nature, have always been an attraction for me,” said Young. “I’m not usually a big fan of cold weather, but when the temperature gets down to zero or below I start getting excited about the opportunities to find great ice patterns. The colder the weather, the more quickly the ice forms holding the shapes of the water flow. This particular image was taken at a stream near my house. The temperature was 3 degrees. I don’t know why it took on the shape of a bone, but I thought it looked interesting. I loved that a small seedpod was frozen into the ice as well. It’s my hope that my images help the viewer share in my passion for the natural world.”
