Previously announced in Europe, the Sony a68 is slated to ship in the US and Canada this April. Built around a new 24 megapixel APS-C size sensor, some of the a68’s most notable attributes revolve around trickle down features from the a77 II and the a7 series. These features include the Sony 4D focus system, with 79 AF points including 15 cross type sensors and a dedicated F2.8 AF sensor point for low light conditions—down to EV-2. And, like the a7 series, the a68 offers 10 customizable buttons for quick access to your most-often used settings. Videographers will appreciate the camera’s advanced motion options, including an audio level meter and control, clean HDMI out and XAVC S recording at up to 50Mbps. At $600 (body only) and $700 with the DT 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 SAM II kit lens, the a68 offers good value for the dollar. Check out additional specs at the Sony site.—Theano Nikitas
