Using Multimedia to Reach a New Generation

How do you get today's younger generations engaged and into the outdoors? Multimedia may just be the way. In one of the most coordinated efforts I've ever worked on, our team put documented a 7 day journey, using both still photos and video, all shot exclusively on the Canon 5D2 and 7D.

For a week, myself, three friends (who happen to be actors on a leading TV show) and the Wild Collective team took a 600 mile journey across some of Florida's wildest places. From swimming with the manatees (shot on the Canon 5D in an Ikelite underwater housing) to paddling deep into Pearl's Bay Chickee in the Everglades, we had one of the best experiences and some of the most challenging technical achievements to overcome. Applying these familiar TV faces with the technology and life I love so much has helped garner such responses from teenagers like "I used to be afraid of lizards and now all I want to do is touch one!" and "This video made up my mind, this weekend I'm heading into a National Park." It never ceases to amaze me how much of an impact the web, our cameras and great storytelling can have on our planet.
