Behind The Shot: ‘Walking The Bike’ by Clint Trahan – Whistler, British Columbia
Walking The Bike by Clint Trahan
This image of Sam Reynolds was shot in Whistler, British Columbia during the Crankworx Red Bull Joyride on August 18, 2013. When setting it up, I looked at the surroundings, the overcast weather, and what the clouds were doing. I made the decision to capture some images from angles not being covered by the sea of photographers sprawled across the JoyRide course. For me, getting a unique angle is as critical as the gear or settings I use.
I lined up the previous riders to make sure the prefocus point I selected would work to get a sharp image of the rider coming over the house. Looking skyward, I framed the image and held the camera static as Sam passed overhead, rather than following him through the trick. The idea on this was to ensure the Joyride branding was perfectly framed with the rider overhead; a necessity for the marketing department. – Clint Trahan
